Adult Tennis: A Better Way to Stay Active, Social and Consistent

Adult tennis players smiling together on court at Ready for Tennis, showing the social and welcoming side of staying active through tennis on the Gold Coast.

If you’re looking for ways to stay active on the Gold Coast, you’ve probably tried a few things.

The gym.
Walking.
Maybe a class here and there.

But for many adults, the challenge isn’t just fitness.

It’s finding something you actually enjoy… and keep showing up to.

That’s where tennis offers something different.

Not just exercise.
A routine.
A social outlet.
A place to reset during the week.

Why Staying Active Feels Harder Than It Should

For a lot of adults, especially those balancing work, family, or running a business, fitness often becomes:

  • something you “fit in” when you can
  • something you start… then stop
  • something that feels like another task

And if you’re working from home, it can be even harder.

Days blur together.
Movement drops off.
And social interaction becomes limited.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, many Australians don’t meet recommended physical activity levels and a lack of movement is closely linked to both physical and mental health challenges.
At the same time, research from Beyond Blue highlights the importance of social connection and regular activity in reducing stress and improving wellbeing.

This is where the right environment makes all the difference.

A Different Way to Stay Active (Without It Feeling Like Training)

At Ready for Tennis, we’ve built our adult programs around one idea:

πŸ‘‰ Make it easy to show up.

Not high pressure.
Not overly technical.
Just something you can build into your week.

Midweek Active Tennis (10am–1pm)

Our Active Tennis sessions run mid-morning during the week - typically between 10am and 1pm.

They’re ideal if you:

  • work from home
  • have a break between school drop-off and pick-up
  • want something active during the day
  • prefer a more relaxed, social environment

Instead of heading to the gym, you’re:

βœ” moving consistently
βœ” getting your heart rate up
βœ” hitting tennis balls (which is far more engaging)
βœ” connecting with other people

It’s fitness… but it doesn’t feel like a workout.

Clinics: Small Groups, More Focus

If you want a bit more structure, our tennis clinics are a great option.

These are:

  • small groups (up to 4 players)
  • slightly more technical focus
  • followed by game-based play

So you’re still having fun, but you’re also improving your game at the same time.

It’s the balance a lot of adults are looking for:

πŸ‘‰ learning without it feeling like a lesson

Private or Workplace Groups

We also work with individuals and small groups who want something tailored.

That could be:

  • private coaching
  • a group of friends
  • or even a team from work

We’ve had groups come down for:

  • 60-90 minutes of tennis
  • followed by a quick coffee
  • then straight back to work

We have:

  • shower facilities onsite
  • a café next door
  • a relaxed environment that makes it easy to step out of the day

  • doubles rotations
  • mixed levels
  • social, welcoming environment

No pressure to perform.
Just good tennis and good people.

Why Tennis Works (Beyond Fitness)

Tennis isn’t just physical.

It’s one of the few activities that combines:

  • movement
  • coordination
  • decision-making
  • focus

Research has shown that learning and playing tennis engages multiple areas of the brain, supporting coordination, memory, and reaction time.

It also naturally develops:

  • resilience (you miss shots, you keep going)
  • focus (every point resets)
  • adaptability (no two rallies are the same)

And because you’re playing with others, it brings something the gym often doesn’t:

πŸ‘‰ real human connection

Being outdoors, moving your body, and interacting with others is a powerful combination for both physical and mental wellbeing.

A Space to Move, Reset and Connect

What we see most often isn’t just people getting fitter.

It’s people:

  • enjoying being active again
  • looking forward to sessions
  • building friendships
  • creating a routine that actually sticks

That’s the difference.

It’s not about pushing harder.

It’s about finding something that fits.

Getting Started (Without Overthinking It)

If you’ve been thinking about doing something active again, this is a good place to start.

You don’t need to commit straight away.

Most people begin with:

From there, you can ease into it at your own pace.
